Swiss falls short to Chile   Leave a comment

A second-half header from Mark Gonzalez saw Chile beat 10-man Switzerland 1-0 in their World Cup Group H clash in Port Elizabeth.

The Swiss had Valon Behrami sent off after 30 minutes but fought bravely and Eren Derdiyok missed a golden chance to equalise in the final minute.

Jorge Valdivia and Gonzalez come on for Vidal and Suazo at the start of the second half as Chile pressed to break the deadlock and Sanchez found the net only for his effort to be chalked off with three Chile players standing in an offside position.

But if the Swiss national team beats Honduras in the final game with 2 goals or more and Spain beats Chile by two goals Swiss will enter the knock out stages.

Switzerland Stun Spain   Leave a comment

Switzerland causes a biggest shock in the 2010 world cup so far by defeating the European champion Spain with a 1-0 victory.

The goal, scored by Gelson Fernandes, came  Switzerland’s first effort from open play and was a real scrappy one.

The 37 winning streak of  Spain against teams from Europe came to an end as they failed to find a way through Ottmar Hitzfeld’s well prepared denfence.
